Junk food wins on convenience, not taste — it’s what’s already open in the cupboard when hunger hits at 4pm. The fix isn’t willpower, it’s having something just as fast sitting next to it.
What “raw” actually means here
Not a strict raw-food diet — just snacks that arrive close to how they grew, with nothing fried, no syrup coating, no long ingredient list. Dried dates, whole nuts, fresh fruit. Read the label on a “healthy” granola bar next to a bag of dates and the dates usually win on both sugar content and how few ingredients are listed.
Dates as the sweet fix
When the craving is specifically for something sweet, dates are the straightforward swap for chocolate or biscuits — natural sugar, no added sugar, and a texture that satisfies a chocolate craving better than fruit usually does. Two or three is enough; they’re dense, not a bag-of-chips portion.
Building a raw snack drawer
A small tin of dates, a bag of mixed nuts, and whatever fresh fruit keeps well at room temperature — that’s most of it. None of it needs the fridge except the fresh fruit, so it travels to a desk drawer or a car glovebox without spoiling the way a cut-up snack would.
Where it doesn’t need to be all-or-nothing
Swapping one junk-food snack a day for a raw one is a realistic starting point — trying to replace every snack at once usually doesn’t stick. Start with whichever craving hits hardest and hand it a specific replacement, not a vague “eat healthier” resolution.
